Hamel Fire Department Lock/Key Box Program
The Minnesota Fire Code requires a fire department lock box when access to or within a structure or an area is restricted because of secure openings
or where immediate access is necessary for life saving or firefighting purposes.
- Shall be of an approved type and shall contain keys to gain access as required by the fire official
- Shall be installed on all new buildings. Exception: Residential one and two family dwellings
- Where an addition, renovation or remodeling of an existing commercial building has taken place
- When buildings are large or when multiple tenants occupy a building, additional key boxes shall be installed when required by the fire official
- The lock box shall be in place with keys prior to a certificate of occupancy being issued
Acquiring a Key Box

- Complete an Authorization and Order Form Click here to download a Hamel Fire Authorization and Order Form
- Send the approved "Authorization and Order" form, along with the required payment, to the following address and allow 1-2 weeks for delivery

- NOTE: Orders that are not approved by the Hamel Fire Department will not be processed
- Once key box arrives and is mounted, contact the Hamel Fire Department to arrange a time for the box to be locked (boxes ares shipped unlocked)
